Bridgestone holds foundation laying ceremony for Thai ORR plant
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. has held a foundation stone laying ceremony at the site of its new plant in Thailand that will produce off-the-road radial tires (ORR) for construction and mining vehicles.
Bridgestone executives, as well as representatives from the industrial state where the site is located and representatives from the construction company, attended the 29 April ceremony.
Start-up of production is planned for the first half of 2015 and the plant will have a capacity of some 85 tonnes per day by the first half of 2019. Bridgestone said its off-the-road radial tires are used on vehicles in mines, quarries and construction sites around the world.
Currently, Bridgestone makes these tires exclusively in Japan and the US, but it said in a 30 April news release that the Thai plant enables it “to establish an optimal ORR production system that will enable us to respond to growing tire demand, and also to any future changes that might occur in the operating environment”.
