Lyon, France - French end-of-life tire management group Aliapur recently staged an innovative event to find new applications for waste materials.
The Openwaste initiative, held 24-26 Nov in Ivry-Paris, brought together 37 participants with one shared ambition – to “hack” waste.
Interdisciplinary teams, including makers, designers, engineers and creatives, were challenged to develop prototype products obtained from scrap tires and other recycled waste.
The prototypes were required to make use of a significant volume of material without generating any additional impact on the environment.
End products included a lamp manufactured solely from recycled materials, connected urban paving stones that produce energy and comfort kits for emergency housing.
