Association says technical and operational issues should be addressed before regulation takes effect
Brussels – Tyres Europe has joined a coalition of European industry associations* urging the European Commission to address what they describe as "remaining flaws and technical constraints" in the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) information system ahead of the regulation's implementation at end of the year.
The information system is a key component of the EUDR framework and is intended to support traceability and compliance across supply chains, explained Tyres Europe in a 29 May statement.
According to the coalition, current limitations, including restrictions on the aggregation of 'due diligence statements' and a lack of functionalities for business users, could create additional administrative burdens and operational uncertainty.
The industry groups called on the Commission to ensure the system is aligned with the legal requirements of the regulation and is also "operationally workable, stress-tested, and adapted to business practice."
They added that a reliable and user-friendly information system will be essential to support compliance with the EUDR while helping to maintain the supply of affected commodities and products to the EU market.
