BKT to establish 60ktpa carbon black plant
Mumbai, India - Indian off-road tire maker Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) is to establish a carbon black plant at its tire-making facility in Bhuj, a company document confirms.
"As a backward integration plan, the BKT board has approved the setting-up of a carbon black plant project at its Bhuj plant," said a 29 July letter to the Indian stock exchange in Mumbai.
In a 22 Aug statement, the Indian company said the 60 kilotonne per annum (ktpa) facility will stretch over approximately 8 hectares within the BKT production site at Bhuj, in the Indian state of Gujarat.
A $23-million-dollar investment has been earmarked for the project.
BKT officially inaugurated the $500-million tire plant at Bhui in Gujarat, India in late 2016. The unit is expected to reach a daily production capacity of around 300 tonnes.
The Bhui site is about 100km from the Pakistani border and 60 km from the Port of Mundra on the Arabian Sea.
The remote desert location required significant infrastructural investment, including in water pipelines and power transmission lines.
