West Bromich, UK – Robinson Brothers has announced that its Arbestab Z product has been approved by the German BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) for use in the manufacture of toys and toy balloons
The zinc diisononyldithiocarbamate product is used in rubber vulcanisation, low-temperature curing and ‘ultra-accelerators’. The BfR approval is listed under special category section 2.5.3.2.2., with a maximum allowed-content of 0.5%.
Robinson Brothers recommends the additive for use in the pre-vulcanisation of high -ammonia natural rubber latex to “minimise/overcome the concerns relating to health issues including N-nitrosamines and Type IV allergens.”
According to the company, the product allows good transparency and colour of latex films, together with enhanced UV stability. It can also act as an antioxidant in certain peroxide- and radiation-vulcanised natural rubber lattices.
