New Maharashtra facility to produce airbags alongside interior and exterior components
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei is investing INR5.76 billion (€53 million) in a new automotive components plant in Maharashtra, southern India, as it expands production capacity in the growing Indian vehicle market.
The plant, to be built in the Bidkin Industrial Area, will manufacture interior and exterior components including bumpers and instrument panels, said TG 24 Sept.
The facility will also produce safety systems such as airbags and steering wheels as well as functional components, including plastic fuel filler pipes.
Operations are scheduled to begin during the first half of 2029, with the facility expected to employ around 570 people by 2030.
Toyoda Gosei said the plant would use large electric injection-moulding machines, automated guided vehicles and production-management systems incorporating IoT and digital technologies.
It will also employ “smart automated processes” combining collaborative robots at the new site.
The new plant will mark TG's eight production facility in India, which the Japanese group described as a “key market,” with growing demand in the SUV segment.
