Phillips Carbon Black expanding plants, mulls new facility

Calcutta , India – Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL) is investing Rs.300 crore (€40 million), to increase carbon black capacity at its Palej and Mundra facilities in Gujarat, India by 80 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) before the end of its fiscal 2019.
The RP SanJlv Goenka Group company is also evaluating plans for a greenfield project with a capacity of 120 kilotonnes per annum, chairman Sanjiv Goenka said in a press statement issued 10 Aug.
In its financial year 2017, ended 30 March, PCBL recorded its highest-ever carbon black production of 383.3ktpa across four plants in India – the company also operates facilities at Durgapur, West Bengal and Kochi, Kerala.
During the next “couple of years”, PCBL said demand for carbon black in India and overseas is expected to grow at 4-5% and 3-4% respectively.
