Munich, Germany – German recovered carbon black (rCB)producer Pyrolyx AG has announced a 10-year contract for the supply of feedstock end-of-life tires (ELT) for its new plant in the US.
The feedstock supply contract follows a recent decision by the company to build an rCB plant in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Under the terms of the contract, Pyrolyx will receive 40 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of input material – roughly 4 million waste tires to be recycled per year.
The company has also announced a new major deal for multi-year supply agreement of rCB in the US “with one of the world’s leading masterbatch manufacturers.”
The Munich-based company announced 23 May that it will supply 36,000 tonnes [per annum] of rCB for the unidentified manufacturer of colourants, special effects and additives.
The long-term agreements, said Pyrolyx, meant that the company had secured a buyer for a “substantial share” of its output and feedstock prior to the construction of its plant.
Recovered carbon black is used as raw material for the production of new tires, masterbatch plastics, as well as other products which use carbon black.
Pyrolyx and Seattle-based Reklaim, Inc. announced in December last year the formation of a joint venture for rCB production in North America.
Pyrolyx USA Inc. is 81% owned by Pyrolyx AG and will use Pyrolyx AG’s manufacturing process at new facilities across North America. Reklaim’s top management team will run Pyrolyx USA.
