Qingdao, China – ContiTech has broken ground for a new €20-million plant for automotive hoses in the Shandong city of Qingdao, according to a company report.
The site has an initial floorspace of approximately 15,000 square meters in the Sino-German eco park of Qingdao ‘west coast new area’.
The first phase will see ContiTech investing €20 million in the plant, the agreement for which was signed in July.
The plant has a projected annual output of about 15 million low pressure hoses in the initial phase.
Depending on the market development, ContiTech said it intends to expand the plant by 2020.
“In the next few years, the existing production of heating and cooling hose lines will be moved to the new factory, which is located only a few kilometres away from the current site,” ContiTech added.
The plant in Qingdao is ContiTech’s fourth plant for mobile fluid applications in China.
Currently, the company has more than 40 locations worldwide producing hoses and hose lines for different industries, including heating and cooling hoses, air-conditioning hoses, turbochargers and brake systems.
