Country reports €1bn in automotive exports in 2024, supported by strong growth in tire segment
Phnom Penh – Cambodia attracted $745 million (€640 million) in automotive investments in 2024 and exported over $1.1 billion worth of vehicles in 2024, according to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).
In a 18 June meeting, the CDC said the country expects further automotive investments through to 2027, 'driven largely by tire manufacturing projects', which the council said are now totalling seven.
Cambodia launched a strategy in 2022 to become a “centre for the production of automotive components and electronic equipment for export to regional and global markets.”
Tire investment activity has surged in Cambodia over the past two years.
In its latest monthly update, CDC said it approved a $244-million tire production expansion project in Svay Rieng province in May, without providing further details.
Chinese tire maker Sailun Group already operates a plant in Svay Rieng and is currently expanding the facility under a $93-million project.
Another Chinese manufacturer, Zodo Tire, is building a factory in the same province, which borders Vietnam.
The plant is designed for an annual capacity of 6 million passenger car tires and 1.2 million truck and bus radial tires.
