Charlotte, North Carolina – Continental Tires the Americas LLC is voluntarily recalling 14,567 Cross Contact LX20 passenger tires, size P275/55R20 111S, for potential contamination to the belt package during the production process, the company said.
The tires were manufactured at Conti’s Mt. Vernon, Ill., facility between 3 May and 9 May, 2015, and bear the DOT identification number DOT A32A WBDE 1815, Conti said in an 14 Oct press release.
According to the tire maker, the potential contamination may cause a lack of adhesion leading to partial or complete tread or belt loss.
Most of the tires were installed as original equipment on certain General Motors full-size truck and SUV models, with a small portion sold on the replacement market, Conti said.
The tires met all federal safety standards, but warranty returns on the tires sparked Conti to conduct a thorough analysis, the tire maker said.
Conti informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall 3 Oct. The company said it has started to contact dealers, wholesalers and customers, and will replace the tires free of charge.
