London – ContiTech has confirmed the closure of a marine- and mining- hose production plant in Çerkezköy, Turkey due to global downturn.
A total of 30 employees were affected by the closure in March, according to company spokeswoman Antje Lewe.
“Due to the worldwide downturn in the petrochemical and mining industry, the oil and gas industry was faced with a lasting slowdown of investments,” said Lewe.
Thus, she explained, ContiTech reviewed its manufacturing footprint and production capacities of the hoses because it did not expect an immediate recovery.
According to Lewe, ContiTech was unable to relocate any hose production from other sites to Çerkezköy and, therefore, the remaining production capacity of the plant has now been shifted elsewhere.
“This decision was difficult to make but unavoidable and necessary given the current situation,” she added.
In Çerkezköy, ContiTech produced off-loading marine and docking hoses and big-bore hoses, mainly for the mining and extraction industries.
