Port Talbot, UK - Mid and west Wales fire and rescue service is currently dealing with a fire incident at a tire recycling plant in Aberafan, Port Talbot.
The fire service was called at 10.55pm on 12 July to Egan Tyre Recycling Plant and at its height there were 21 appliances and 100 personnel on site dealing with the incident.
The incident has been deemed “particularly complex” in that it involves deep seated fires within a large quantity of waste tyre product.
A number of key agencies including mid- and west Wales fire and rescue service, South Wales Police, Welsh ambulance service trust, public health Wales, natural resources Wales, Neath Port Talbot local authority and Welsh water are currently involved with the incident
Nobody is reported to have been hurt, but nearby residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
The fire service said the incident was particularly complex as it involved deep seated fires within a large quantity of waste tires and may take some time to deal with.
The smoke plume is being monitored by natural resources Wales and public health Wales, but currently shows no sign of any significant change in air quality.
