Magog, Québec – Off-road/industrial tire maker Camso Ltd has developed a new naming system that it claims will make it easier for customers to spec the correct tire or track among the myriad niche applications in the construction and industrial machine industry.
The introduction of the new naming system coincides with the launch of the Camso brand, the Magog-based company said. Prior to last August, Camso went to market solely under the Camoplast and/or Solideal brand names.
The new system is based on four criteria:
performance level — top, core or entry;
surface condition — soft, hard, mixed or severe;
tread pattern — R1, L5, L4, etc.; and
product type — bias, radial or solid.
“It’s been almost a year since we began communicating the Camso brand in our commercial literature,” said Derek Bradeen, brand and communications global director. “This was a first step in building a strong, coherent brand identity for the company.
“We did this to generate awareness of the Camso brand without losing the equity of our legacy brands. It’s now time for all of our construction products to carry the Camso name.”
Bradeen called this the “most tangible way” for end users to connect with the performance features of Camso’s products in their respective niches.
Since launching the Camso brand last July, the company has added a series of Camso-brand skidsteer, telehandler and wheel-loader tires to its construction line-up and is ramping up efforts to complete transitioning the rest of its construction portfolio by yar-end.
“Tire selection in our industry is more difficult than one would think,” said David Fleischhauer, executive director, market development – construction. “For us, helping dealers and end-users understand tire selection is just as important as engineering a great tire.
“As we transitioned products to the Camso brand, we…developed a naming sequence to eliminate the complex equation a user must tackle to match their tire with the machine they’re running and the job they need to accomplish,” Fleischhauer noted.
Camso also brings to market simple design features that respond to unspoken inconveniences of tire usage and storage:
A treadwear indicator to help users maximise tire life and reduce operating costs by preventing premature tire replacement or failure and downtime from wear out.
The identifying nomenclature is molded into the tread pattern to help reduce the need to disrupt vertically stacked tires to find the ones needed.
Camso is including metric and imperial units on its products to serve its global clients more effectively.
