Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio – Emerald Performance Materials of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, announced it has sold its Specialities and Polymer Additives and Nitriles business groups to DyStar LP.
The sale to Charlotte, North Carolina-based Dystar includes all of four plants — in Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Henry, Illinois — and a portion of a shared plant in Akron, Ohio.
The two units include resins and additives for polymers.
Terms of the transaction and its potential impact on workers were not disclosed. There were no notices filed on the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services website for Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act as of 9 May.
Companies with more than 100 employees are generally required by the WARN Act to notify the state 60 days in advance of any layoff of more than 50 workers.
Dystar provides products and services to the textile industry, including finishes, lubricants and colours for garments and other products.
Emerald produces a variety of specialty chemicals for food and industrial applications and its products are used by manufacturers in their products, “enabling them to last longer, look, smell, taste or perform better,” the company said.
Emerald sells into a variety of industries, including aerospace, food, beverages, cosmetics, toothpaste, household products, paint, tires, automobiles, sports gear and other applications, according to the company.
Currently, and prior to any effects of the just-announced sale, Emerald has more than 800 employees working at nine plants.
