Wrexham, UK – Rubber compounding company Clwyd Compounders Ltd. has engineered a safety mechanism to enable it comply with the new safety standard BS EN 1417:2014 Safety Standard for Rubber Mills – February 2016
Clwyd Compounders took over a year to develop the mechanism that is effective in meeting the key features of this new standard, said the company based in Ruabon, Wrexham.
The design ensures that when the safety bar is pressed, the mill rolls separate by 30mm within three seconds and automatic reversal of the rolls occurs within two seconds of the mill stopping through an angle of 60?.
In the event that power to the mill fails the rolls automatically stop, added the company, which will install the technology on all mills in the factory over the next two years.
“This demonstrates Clwyd’s commitment to leading the compounding industry in all areas; quality, service, technical support and health & safety,” the Welsh company stated.
In addition to the safety benefits the new design utilises a variable speed drive which enables greater control when mixing and saves power, Clwyd Compounders pointed out.
