UK awards 21 new shale gas licenses to Ineos
London – A day after the parliament approved controversial plans to allow fracking beneath national parks, Ineos won 21 shale gas licences in the UK government’s 14th round of licencing.
In a statement on 17 Dec, INEOS said it was awarded 700,000 acres on top of its existing 300,000 acres.
The awarded licenses are in the East Midlands and the North West. Areas include Runcorn, close to the Ineos manufacturing facility in the town, and additional licenses in North Yorkshire, close to Ineos’ plants in Hull and Newton Aycliffe.
The licenses are subject to planning permissions, said Ineos, adding that it had committed to full consultation with all local communities before proceeding with any shale gas development.
