Rovereto, Italy – Marangoni is targeting the super-wide tire segment – tires with a tread width exceeding 325 mm – which it says has been growing exponentially worldwide over recent years.
In response to market demand, Marangoni Retreading Systems is to design and develop new tread patterns and customised compounds. The programme also features the installation of a special press for the production of tread rings up to 450mm wide.
This machine, said a company statement, features very high specific moulding pressure, and can be fed both in the traditional manner, with extruded sections of rubber, or using one or two extruders to make the process completely automatic.
The new press will be installed at the company’s Italian production plant as an addition to the existing one, thus doubling production capacity there.
Super-wide single tires are used in place of twin wheels, and are said to allow fuel savings of up to 6 percent, a wider tread footprint and better stability.
Further advantages can include a reduction in overall vehicle weight, removal of the need to rotate tire position on vehicles, easier maintenance and lower purchase costs.
According to Marangoni, the dimensions of these tires favours retreading with its Ringtread system especially - due to "the circular shape and the absence of the usual joint and lack of uniformity in distribution of the material applied, typical of traditional pre-cured strips."
Rngtread is claimed to be the only retreading system that uses jointless precured rings that adhere to the casing without any tension or deformation of the tread pattern.
This feature, claims Marangoni, enhances traction on demanding surfaces, due to the greater precision and directional stability ensured by the siping and blocks
