Continental opens new plant in China, to employ 1,500
Wuhu, China – German automotive supplier and tire producer Continental announced on 17 Nov that it is opening a second plant in the Chinese town of Wuhu.
Continental Automotive Interior (Wuhu) Co., Ltd. is adding new facilities to its current capacity Anhui province, China.
A total of €33 million has been invested for land and building and the new plant is expected to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2015.
According to the president of Continental China, Ralf Cramer, the facility is the 22nd Continental plant in China, which he said reflected the company’s strategy of being “in the market for the market”.
With a total land of 120,000 square meters and an initial floor space of 46,000 square meters, the facility will include production operations, R&D centre as well as other facilities.
By end of 2015, around 1,500 employees will be working in the new plant including around 215 R&D engineers. And 42 production lines in total will be installed by end of 2015.
