Houston - Kraton Performance Polymers Inc. and Rosneft have highlighted their role in the pavement of the Sochi Autodrom - the venue for Formula One newest Grand Prix – on 12 Oct. The 5.853km circuit, is located within the Russian city's Olympic Park.
Polymer-modified bituminous binder Alfabit, produced by Rosneft, was selected as a component for the top layer of the asphalt for the Sochi raceway.
The huge forces put onto an F1 track requires a binder that possesses a very high shear strength. Kraton D1192 was selected by Rosneft to produce the Alfabit binder that was used in the Sochi track.
The grade has an increased content of vinyl groups in the polybutadiene chain of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) molecules that delivers an excellent balance of properties, such as age and degradation resistance, the materials company claims.
