Bridgestone building new tire plant in Russia
ERJ staff report (PR)
Bridgestone Corp has broken ground at the planned site of a new passenger car radial tire plant in Ulyanovsk Oblast, 900km east-southeast of Moscow.
Due for start-up in the first half of 2016, the plant is estimated to reach around 12,000 units a day and employ 800 people by the second half of 2018.
Mitsubishi Corp. is contributing to the construction of the new plant and has a 10 percent stake in the venture, operated by Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing CIS LLC.
The facility is intended to meet anticipated growth in demand for products, such as winter tires, in markets within Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market.
"Bridgestone is building this new plant in order to meet the demand growth with local production and to contribute 'motorization' in Russia with high-quality, safety-secured products," Bridgestone COO Kazuhisa Nishigai said at the 2 April ceremony.
New vehicle sales in the Russia/CIS region have shown strong growth, and demand for tires is expected to increase, according to Bridgestone, which aims to meet this demand growth with local production.
