'Smart rubber' to be produced in Kazakhstan
ERJ staff report (BC)
Almaty, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan’s first recycling plant for used tires has opened in Kyzylorda, in the south of the country, Tengrinews reported.
When it reaches full capacity the plant will produce 270 tonnes of rubber granules a year for artificial sports turf; this equates to 7500-17,500 square metres of surfacing for children's playgrounds or four football fields. 440 tonnes of active rubber granules a year will be produced for road surfacing, equivalent to 2.8km of road. 3.9m metres of microporous subsurface irrigation tubes will be produced; enough to irrigate 180-200 hectares of farmland.
The 'smart rubber' processing technology is the property of SmartRubber LLP, a joint enterprise of DorStroi LLP and KazKauchuk LLP. The project is supported by Kazakhstan’s National Agency for Technological Development.
