Keyuan Petrochemicals boosting SSBR capacity
ERJ staff report (BC)
Ningbo, China – Keyuan Petrochemicals Inc. is to augment its solution polymerised styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR) capacity with a new production facility capable of making 150 000 tonnes per annum.
The plant will use Keyuan’s proprietary technology to produce the tire raw material.
The company aims to replace imported hexakis (methoxymethy) melamine (HMMM).
It said: “The increasing market demand in tire and auto parts has resulted in greater requirements for styrene, ABS and SSBR. Rather than focusing on optimising the current utilisation rates for [our] different facilities, [we] have decided upon expanding capacity through a number of projects, including a new SSBR plant.”
