ERJ staff report (BC)
Brussels – A survey commissioned by Goodyear in several European countries revealed that the most important performance area for truck operators in choosing tires is rolling resistance, reports HGVUK.com. This parameter directly influences fuel efficiency. Of the fleet operators interviewed, 77 per cent classified rolling resistance as “very important” or “extremely important”.
Mileage (76 percent) and wet grip (75 per cent) were classified second and third. Only then did cost per km appear, at 68 percent.
Goodyear notes that transport companies are now engaged in a much greater mix of the types of haulage, with operating costs increasing.
91 per cent of the operators interviewed are cited as predicting a further increase in fuel prices, with 84 per cent expecting an increase in other costs as well.
70 per cent of operators interviewed claim they already purchase fuel-efficient tires or that they will start doing so soon (21 percent).
