Avon to supply respiratory masks to US defence department
ERJ staff report (BC)
Melksham, UK – Avon Rubber has been awarded a sole-source contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to develop a modified version of its M53 face mask to provide respiratory protection on the DoD’s fixed-wing aircraft fleet.
The award value is $6.7m for an initial two-year preproduction phase covering development, testing and user trials, plus logistical support. Follow-on production contract awards could be up to $74m.
This is part of the DoD’s strategy to provide its aircrew with upgraded chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRNe) respiratory protection.
