TPU demand growing
ERJ staff report (BC)
London – Thermoplastic polyurethanes account for less than 5 percent of total urethane products, but are growing at one of the fastest rates in the industry, according to a report by IAL Consultants quoted by Rubber & Plastics News.
TPU's high versatility is the spark for the increase in consumption, the market study said.
IAL said in 2012 footwear was the largest end-use segment for TPU, about 38 percent of the market at 133 015 metric tons, followed by engineering products, at 28 percent with 111 730 tonnes.
The report, entitled 'A Global Overview of the Thermoplastic Polyurethane Market', looks at global TPU production and consumption by region, as well as consumption by end-use.
