Use EPDM liner for a vibrant, weedless pond, says gardening guru
ERJ staff report (BC)
London – Daily Telegraph gardening columnist Bunny Guinness has advised gardeners making new ponds to use a 1mm thick EPDM liner, which she says has superseded butyl rubber in this application. Guinness points to resistance to degradation by UV light, and the availability of a 25-year guarantee.
Guinness specifies an NP300 blanket underlay below and usually above the liner to protect it from damage.
For planting to hide the edge of the liner, she suggests using pre-vegetated coir rolls which will sprout “wonderful, lush, emergent plants” if an ornamental and native mix is used.
