ATS fits cold weather tires to UK ambulances
ERJ staff report (BC)
Birmingham, UK – ATS Euromaster reports fitting more than 10 000 new cold weather tires to 20 National Health Service and private UK ambulance operators around the country during the last six months.
The specialist tires offer better vehicle handling and reduced stopping distances in temperatures lower than 7°C, which are common in the UK between October and March.
This is the temperature at which the rubber formulated for normal “summer” tires becomes harder and less elastic, says ATS, resulting in reduced grip and braking ability and providing a less comfortable ride.
Demand for the high-grip fitments peaked in November 2012 with 2 847 new winter tires being fitted to ambulances and rapid-response paramedic cars.
ATS Euromaster also refitted thousands of cold weather tires stored on behalf of clients since spring.
