Fuel saving app helps drivers select summer tires
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Leverkusen, Germany – Speciality chemical company Lanxess says its fuel saving app will help car owners choose the right summer tires by comparing economic and environmental benefits of fuel-efficient tires.
The German company said now as temperatures climb above 7°C , it is time for drivers to switch from winter tires, which consume an unnecessary amount of fuel due to their higher rolling resistance.
The fuel saving app provides “quick and simple answers” to questions about changing to summer tires. Lanxess has now added a braking distance calculator to the software, allowing users to calculate how many metres certain tires will shorten the braking distance on wet roads.
The software, which can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store, has been used more than 150 000 times by drivers, Lanxess said.
