Facility in Casablanca to support ‘rapidly growing aerospace hub’ in region
Casablanca, Morocco – Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has officially opened its aerospace seals production facility in Casablanca to support the “rapidly growing aerospace hub” in the region.
In a 10 June social media video, group president and CEO Peter Nilsson said the facility will boost the group’s global footprint and reinforce its commitment to the aerospace industry.
The facility will primarily produce ‘airframe seals’ for both OEMs, which is seeing a significant growth at the moment, and also the ‘strong’ aftermarket demand, Nilsson added.
“It's a very technical product that we're manufacturing. It requires a lot of skill, a lot of different materials and we're also vertically integrating the manufacturing processes now,” said Gordon Ruper, president global aerospace.
The plant is also incorporating “metal machining” for the first time, and features “a very modern state-of-the-art laboratory as well to continue our material development and testing globally,” Ruper added.
Trelleborg announced plans to build the Casablanca facility in May 2024, with operations originally scheduled for end of 2025.
At the time, the Swedish group said it was filling a gap in the market as no company in Morocco focuses on polymer seals for the aerospace industry.
The Swedish polymer group also operates an automotive boots production facility in Morocco.
The unit in Kenitra has been operational since 2021 and is Trelleborg’s first production facility in Africa.
