FIA exercises option to extend current agreement with tire maker by one year
Milan, Italy – Pirelli will remain the exclusive tire supplier to Formula 1 and its associated championships through the end of the 2028 season, after the FIA exercised an option to extend the current agreement by one year.
The extension prolongs Pirelli's role as global tire partner of F1 and sole supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 Championship and F1 Academy.
The one-year extension option formed part of agreements signed in 2023 between Pirelli, the FIA and Formula 1, which secured the Italian group's position as sole supplier for the 2025-2027 period.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said Pirelli had been "an important partner to the FIA Formula One World Championship for many years", providing "a consistently high standard of performance, innovation, and safety".
According to Ben Sulayem, the extension "provides stability for the championship" and reflects the collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli.
Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice chairman of Pirelli, welcomed the move, saying F1 was "the best laboratory" for the tire maker to test its technical solutions and continually improve R&D "for the benefit of tomorrow's road tires."
Pirelli has been F1's exclusive tire supplier since 2011.
