Yokohama ups annual tire capacity to 1.6m in Russia
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Tokyo – The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd will increase annual production capacity of its Russian subsidiary from 1.4 million to 1.6 million tires.
The Japanese company will invest Yen 500 million (Euro 3.9 million) in the existing plant of Yokohama RTZ, with full production capacity scheduled for autumn 2014.
Yokohama says its sells 3 million tires a year in Russia, which is more than twice its local production capacity. The production increase aims to close this gap and promote “local production for local consumption.”
Yokohama RTZ was founded in December 2008 for the purpose of manufacturing tires in Russia. The company opened its tire plant in May 2012. It sells the tires in Russia, but also plans to export some products elsewhere in Europe in the future.
