Apollo Tyres honoured for HIV-AIDS initiative

Kochi, India - Apollo Tyres Ltd has received an Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award (AREA) from the Enterprise Asia organisation in the Health Promotion category for its HIV-AIDS work.
The company says it has been working towards awareness and prevention of HIV-AIDS among employees, business partners and communities since 2001. It now runs 21 health care centres across India for the trucking community in major transport hubs.
In the past fiscal year, Apollo reports treating 4,500 patients at its health centres for sexually transmitted infections and 38,500 patients for general health issues. 29,500 people underwent counseling on HIV-AIDS and 13,000 people were tested voluntarily for the virus.
