German manufacturer adopts recovered carbon black at “commercial scale” across Americas operations
Boulder, Colorado – ContiTech AG has integrated recovered carbon black (rCB) from Bolder Industries into conveyor belt production across its operations in the Americas, it was announced 24 Sept.
Over the past 12 months, ContiTech has incorporated BolderBlack-branded rCB into general-purpose conveyor belt cover compounds following production trials at its plants in the region, Bolder said in a release.
The qualification programme assessed processing behaviour and material performance, with the material meeting ContiTech’s requirements for commercial-scale use.
“Sustainability in industrial manufacturing must be earned through performance, quality, consistency, and cost,” said Mathew Augustine, head of product development, Industrial Solutions Americas at ContiTech.
“By integrating BolderBlack into our conveyor belt production, we are demonstrating that circular materials can meet the rigorous standards our customers expect,” he added.
Bolder produces its rCB from post-consumer or post-industrial rubber waste using thermal conversion process.
According to Bolder, production of the material uses around 98% less water and generates about 86% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared with virgin carbon black production.
The material is ISCC+ certified, providing chain-of-custody traceability and mass-balance verification, Bolder said.
