Uitenhage, Eastern Cape province, South Africa - Workers at the Goodyear factory in South Africa have downed tools in a dispute over working conditions.
A statement the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) said “workers belonging to the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) have down tools and they are embarking on a protected strike as from this morning Tuesday 23 October 2012.â€
Numsa said The workers are demanding a Relief Allowance when placed on staggered break, which has always been a standard practice or a norm within the company. It claimed the company will be placingâ€a sizeable number of workers†on a staggered break without the usual payment of the Relief Allowance.
