US national tyre research centre holds opening ceremony
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Alton, Virginia - The National Tire Research Centre, an advanced tyre research center and test facility, specialising in independent testing and research, will hold its ribbon cutting ceremony, 24 Oct.
The centre is part of a collaborative effort by research centre Virginia Tech, the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research, General Motors and other local organisations. It aims to “provide the automotive industry with the testing capability needed to engineer and develop tyres to enhance fuel economy and lower emissions while meeting federal vehicle requirements and customer expectations.â€
This level and breadth of research, development, and testing together in one location for automotive and tyre manufacturers does not currently exist anywhere else in the world, Virginia Tech says.
