Goodyear promotes tyre care for safety week
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Akron, Ohio - Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is promoting responsible tyre care in the US to advance of the country's National Tyre Safety Week, 3-9 June.
Goodyear said the tyre safety week is a period that emphasises the simple steps drivers can take to ensure their tyres are in good working condition. Research reveals that motorists rank tyres as the second-most important safety feature in vehicles next to brakes, yet only a third of consumers properly check their tyre inflation pressure, the company said.
Improper air pressure in tyres can lead to a multitude of problems - from uneven and accelerated tyre wear, to structural damage in a tyre. An underinflated tyre also has the potential to affect tyre performance, including making a vehicle less fuel-efficient. With temperatures rising and vacation travel commencing, the attention given to the care and maintenance of tyres should be heightened, according to Goodyear officials.
“Checking tyres for proper inflation and tread condition is one of the most critical - and easiest - maintenance procedures for a consumer,†said John Peer, vice president of Goodyear Retail. “It doesn't take much time or sophisticated equipment. Drivers can check their tyres by themselves, or any of our retail outlets would be happy to provide the service."
During National Tyre Safety Week, Goodyear outlets will distribute the Rubber Manufacturers' Association's (RMA) “Be Tyre Smart, Play Your PART†consumer booklets. Those guides stress the importance of inflation pressure, wheel alignment, tyre rotation and visual checks of tyre tread.
The company will also provide information on tyre care, product selection and more on its website. And Goodyear's famous blimps will continue to spread the tyre care message while in flight, urging consumers on the ground to check tyre pressure and treadwear.
