India launches drive to improve sheet rubber
ERJ staff report (DS)
Kottayam, India - Chair of India's Rubber Board, Smt. Sheela Thomas, has said that improvement in the quality of sheet rubber is essential for ensuring healthy growth and sustainability of Indian rubber plantation industry.
When almost all the tyre majors are coming to our country to set up their units here, the farmers should reap the benefits offered by the market, she added. Small and marginal growers should seek the help of Rubber Producers Societies also in this regard, she suggested.
She said older style tyres can be made using lower-quality rubber such as 5-sheet (RSS5) and 4-sheet (4-sheet), however, these modern tyre factories require higher quality rubber, from 3-sheet upwards and also technically-specified rubber.
