Japanese exec arrested for financial fraud - reports
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - A mid-ranking financial executive at the Japanese company Shibata Industrial has reportedly been arrested for fraud after allegedly transferring yen 530 million (euro 5 million) of corporate funds to his personal account. Shibata makes dock fenders and other large scale rubber products for marine and industrial applications
A series of Japanese news reports say Moritoshi Kurita, 33, allegedly used office computers to transfer the money to his personal account, and 90 percent of the money was then transferred to a bar hostess. The hostess claimed she was ill and needed to pay for surgery. Tokyo Reporter suggests the sequence of events between the hostess and Kurita carries all the hallmarks of a scam.
