Asahi Kasei to make butadiene from butene - report
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - Asahi Kasei has reportedly developed a butadiene extraction system and is planning to set up a series of factories to produce the monomer by 2014. The monomer is expected to serve the synthetic rubber industry.
The report, on AsiaPulse network, said the system converts butene to butadiene using a new, low-cost process. Asahi Kasei will initially set up a commercial line to do this at its Mizushima plant in Japan which is due on stream in 2014. The output from this unit is expected to be used in Asahi's own operations. Thereafter it expects to add up to 200,000 tonnes of butadiene capacity in overseas locations for sale on the open market.
