Tyre markets show mixed growth in November - Pirelli
ERJ staff report (DS)
Milan, Italy -- Pirelli has updated its website with tyre sales in different regions for the month of November and the first eleven months of 2011.
The company reports only percentage changes, not absolute numbers.
Pirelli said European truck tyre replacement sales increased by just 1 percent in the first eleven months, but the November figure was a decrease of 20 percent compared with a year ago. OE figures continued to show growth, but the pace is slowing fast. The data shows an increase of 36 percent in the year to date but just 5 percent in November.
OE truck tyre sales in the NAFTA region slowed their recovery, increasing by 55 percent in the year to date, and by 43 percent in the most recent month. On the replacement side, however the slowdown in sales continued, with an increase of just 1 percent in the first eleven months but sales were down by 5 percent in the month of November. Sales data for the Mercosur region showed OE sales up by 10 percent in the first eleven months, but sales recovered strongly in November to show 17 percent growth. On the replacement side, growth in the year to date was just 1 percent, but that reversed in November with a decline of 8 percent.
In the car and light truck segment, European OE sales in the first eleven months were up by 4 percent, matched by growth of 3 percent in November. Replacement sales were up by 4 percent in the year to date and down by 1 percent in November.
North American (NAFTA) sales of car and light truck tyres were mixed. On the replacement side, sales in the eleven months were down by 1 percent on last year, but up by 1 percent in November. OE figures were positive, with sales in the year to date up by 9 percent and in November up by 17 percent.
In the Mercosur region, sales were less healthy. Replacement sales strengthened slightly, with the year so far level with the same period in 2010, and up by 3 percent in the month of November. In OE, the year-to-date figure was up by 3 percent, but the most recent month showed a fall of 9 percent
