Hankook wins OE fitments across BMW 1-series
ERJ staff report (DS)
Neu-Isenburg, Germany -- Korean tyre maker, Hankook is supplying high-performance tyres for OE fitment on all available models of BMW's 1-Series. Deliveries have started but Hankook is one of a number of suppliers to BMW.
The Ventus Prime², which BMW takes for its Mini brand, will be fitted to the 116i, 118i, 116d and 118d versions of the car in size 195/55 R 16 V. The current top-of-the-range model 120d will also be fitted with the Ventus Prime² ex works, although with the 205/55 R 16 W version.
“The newly developed chassis of the BMW 1 Series places particularly high demands on the tyres. They must be able to dynamically transfer the engine power of the car directly onto the road, whilst guaranteeing a level of long-distance comfort yet uncommon in this vehicle category. Our new Ventus Prime² offers the right balance between driving comfort and agile dynamics for the new BMW 1 Series, without compromising on important safety and environmental parameters such as wet grip and rolling resistance." explains Stefan Fischer, Head of Hankook Tire's European Technology Centre (ETC) and responsible for tyre development for the BMW Group. Around 45 Engineers and Technicians are currently developing tyre equipment for the European automotive industry on the company's premises in Langenhagen near Hannover in Germany.
