Bridgestone: No US aircraft tyre plant

Nashville, Tennessee -- Contrary to published reports emanating from Japan the past few days, Bridgestone Corp. is not planning to build capacity in the US for aircraft tyres.
Stories from Bloomberg News' coverage of the release of Bridgestone Corp.'s Mid-Term Management Plan on 21 Oct spoke of the company's plans to build an aircraft tyre plant in South Carolina.
This is not the case, a Bridgestone Americas' spokesman confirmed. It appears the confusion arose because Bridgestone executives mentioned radial aircraft tyres as one of the company's strategic product areas immediately after reviewing the firm's plans to spend more than $1.2 billion (Euro 8.6 billion) in South Carolina to build a radial OTR tyre plant and expand car and light truck tire capacity.
Bridgestone makes radial aircraft tyres at plants in Kurume and Tokyo. Japan, and maintains aircraft tyre retreading facilities in the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
