ERJ staff report (LMH)
Nürburgring, Germany - Hankook Team Farnbacher is celebrating its maiden victory in the third round of the international endurance test VLN with its Ferrari F458 Italia GT, the tyre company said in a 16 May announcement.
The Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring (VLN) is a series of ten one-day event races held on the Nürburgring, a motorsport complex around the village of Nürburg in Germany.
After 40 race laps and 974.76 kilometres, Marco Seefried and Jamie Melo Junior crossed the finish line at the Eifel race track as the winners for the Hankook Team Farnbacher, Hankook said. They finished the race almost one second ahead of the second-placed Porsche Team Manthey Racing.
“We congratulate the drivers and the team and are happy with this victory and the very successful partnership with Horst Farnbacher and his team. Our involvement in endurance racing is a very effective addition to our commitment in the DTM,†said Jin-Wook Choi, Hankook's executive vice president.
He added, “We are happy being involved in such top-class motorsport events and to display the performance of our tyres in such an impressive way.â€
For the Hankook Team Farnbacher, the third round of the VLN 2011 brought the first-ever Ferrari victory at the legendary Nordschleife in the 35-year history of the series. Moreover, the race was a final test for the upcoming 24-hour race.
“This victory wasn't our aim. For us, participating in this race was much more to select different tyre specifications and to work on the set-up of the car. For us, this victory is another success after our podium finishes at Le Castellet and Spa, where we were able to claim a third and a second place. Now, we are confident for the Nürburgring 24-hour raceâ€, said Hankook's race engineer Michael Eckert.
