Michelin extends global tyre data

Paris -- Michelin has published a moredetailed regional breakdown of the growth in the global tyre industry.
In the latest data, which covers the period up to January 2011, Michelin has extended its analysis of the global tyre industry to eight regions, instead of just three in car tyres and five in truck tyres. The new regional breakdown covers Western Europe; Eastern Europe; North America; South America; Southeast Asia and oceania; China; Japan and Korea; Africa; India; Middle-East.
The site still only gives percentage changes from a year ago, but the data shows growth in all markets and nearly all regions. Data is given for January, and for the year to date, which, this month, is the same as the figure for January.
In truck tyre markets, Western Europe showed growth of 82.3 percent in the OE market, and 16.3 percent on the replacement side. In Eastern Europe, OE sales were up by a massive 406 percent while replacement sales increased by 12.2 percent.
In the Americas, North American OE markets rose by 59.7 percent, while replacement sales were up by 12.1 percent. In South America, OE sales rose by 18.3 percent, while replacement sales were up by 13.5 percent.
Across Africa and the mid-East OE sales grew 44.3 percent, while replacement sales were up by 6.9 percent.
In Asia, China saw a decline of 5.2 percent in OE sales, while replacement sales were up by 12.2 percent. Japan and Korea saw sales rise by 8.5 percent on the OE side and 10.5 percent in the replacement market. South-east Asia also saw growth, with OE sales up by 7.0 percent and replacement sales up by 3.5 percent.
In car tyre markets, Western Europe showed growth of 9.2 percent in the OE market, and 14.2 percent on the replacement side. In Eastern Europe, OE sales were up by 14.4 percent while replacement sales increased by 9.5 percent.
In the Americas, North American OE markets rose by17.4 percent, while replacement sales were up by 12.9 percent. In South America, OE sales rose by 4.8 percent, while replacement sales were up by 13.3 percent.
Across Africa and the mid-East OE sales grew 7.0 percent, while replacement sales were up by 5.9 percent.
In Asia, China saw an increase of 5.1 percent in OE sales, while replacement sales were up by 24.2 percent. Japan and Korea saw sales rise by 6.5 percent on both the OE side and the replacement market. South-east Asia also saw groth, with OE sales up by 16.5 percent and replacement sales up by 4.7 percent.
