UK government hears about Michelin's waste programme
ERJ staff report (DS)
Ballymeena, Northern Ireland -- Environment Minister Edwin Poots and the Waste Programme Board visited Michelin Tyre factory today to learn about its recycling initiatives.
During the visit Board members and the Minister heard about initiatives Michelin Tyre PLC has put in place to both increase recycling rates and source ethically and economically sound outlets for recycling. The Ballymena facility had an impressive site recycling result in 2010 of 98.1% with over 80% of the recycling carried out by Northern Ireland businesses. This has made it a benchmark facility within the Michelin Group.
At the Waste Programme Board members debated a draft recycling policy document which the department will use as a basis for discussion with the local government sector and the Environment Committee before taking to formal public consultation.
