ERJ staff report (RD)
Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp. is aiming to reduce its global CO2 emission by 35 percent per sales from its total operations, “further increasing its focus on, and commitment to, the environment,†a 30 April company statement said.
Bridgestone said it is also pursuing a challenging goal to “improve tyre rolling efficiency by 25 percent,†resulting in less fuel use and CO2 emissions from driving, while also extending the life of its tyres. The Tokyo-based company estimates that the potential reduction in CO2 emissions from helping improve their customers' fuel efficiency exceeds the emissions related to its operations and its products' after-use. Both of these goals are planned to be achieved by 2020 (compared to a 2005 baseline), the statement said.
To meet its goal, Bridgestone said it will focus on 5 key areas: Raw material and component procurement; manufacturing; logistics; after-use, and; product development.
In other news, Bridgestone has announced it will be participating in the “Safety & Eco Station in Shanghaiâ€, organised by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), from 9-14 July at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. The Expo opens 1 May.
“Safety & Eco Station in Shanghai†is an exhibit which will include displays on eco-friendly driving techniques, tips on how to become a safer driver and will encourage motorists to drive responsibly every time they get behind the wheel, a 30 April Bridgestone statement said.
Bridgestone will showcase its road safety initiatives as well as its environmental campaign "Make Cars Green," which it carries out in Japan in cooperation with JAF. The presentation will also include information on tyre technologies such as Bridgestone Ecopia, “that are more environmentally friendly by improving fuel economy while also providing excellent overall performance and no compromise in wet handling ability,†the statement added.
