Spot rubber on Tocom surges above $5 before falling back
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo -- April contracts on the TOCOM rubber exchange peaked at yen 472 ($5.05) per kilo earlier today, before falling back to yen 450. The more recognised six-month benchmark fell by a couple of points to yen 315/kg.
Markets around the world saw short-dated contracts substantially higher than longer-dated rubber, with the spot market at all-time highs, while the price for six-month contracts was closer to $3.35 -- still high in historical terms, but off the recent highs.
