Irish tyres need E-marking from April
ERJ staff report (DS)
Dublin, Ireland -- Ireland became the last country in the EC to require tyres to carry an E-mark, from 1 April. From that date, the annual vehicle inspection (NCT test) will fail a vehicle carrying non E-marked tyres.
E marked tyres have been on the market in Ireland for many years and have been an EU legal requirement in the sale of tyres since 1997.
Dave Naughton, president of the Irish Tyre Industry Association states 'It is a big step forward for road safety to have tyres included in the NCT test. Recognising the E mark standard will raise the safety of tyres on our roads. It will also raise awareness among road users to the critical role tyres play, in reducing accidents. Worn and sub standard tyres are dangerous and we as an Association welcome the fact that they will be examined during national car testing.
