Hanover, Germany -- A new world record has been set using 2160 of Continental's industrial tyres to transport 15 000 tons on over 540 axle lines, a 19 March Conti statement said.
Continental developed a tyre concept specifically tailored to suit the task: precisely moving Aker Solutions 15 000 ton oil seperation plant from its production site to a pontoon, with an accuracy level of 2mm in Kamag and Scheuerle Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
The Continental IC 40, size 355/65-15, crossply industrial pneumatic tyre was chosen for the task because of its performance under the toughest of conditions, Conti said.
Belgian heavy haulage company Sarens carried out the record breaking project.
